Not long ago, Ange told me that Verna Davis the 'wife' of ntcc founder, R.W. Davis, sold her a dress for $35.00. Now many people might think that this is a topic unworthy of a blog post; but you better believe; we are going to blog about this. Some might ask, "What's the big deal about VD selling a dress to Ange for 35 bucks? Verna was being a blessing to your wife." This is the way things were often presented to us when we were cult members. In fact, it was probably considered to be an honor to some folks to have something that was owned by borg royalty. But this is wrong on so many levels; it's not even funny.
First of all, let's address the rich selling to the poor. We are not talking about a rich person having a garage sale, and selling a dress to a poor person for 5 dollars, which is about what a dress would bring at a garage sale. A lot of people DONATE clothes to the Goodwill; and they end up on a rack, where this dress would probably go for about 5 to 10 bucks, and an unsuspecting ntcc member trying to live off of $40 per week grocery budget might end up buying it at this kook store. I'm not sure if anyone realizes how absurd this really is so, as usual, you can depend on us to break this down.
"Kook Store" Dresses |
Ange and Eric Barden were "laboring" at the ntcc national camp ground, in Mexico, MO at the time; and Eric was making between $6.00 ~ 10.00 "per hour" but only being paid for 40 hours a week despite always working far more hours. That's $240 ~ $400 per week minus $24 ~ 40 bucks for TITHE THAT WAS AUTOMATICALLY TAKEN OUT. So at ($6/hr.) x (40hrs/week) = (240 $/wk) - $24 tithe (taken off the top) = $216/ week after tithe, which, again, was taken off the top. Ange was not allowed to work; because, as we all know, that was considered a sin for a married woman to have a job back then in the ntcc. Their grocery budget was about $40 per week; which also was taught by the ntcc leadership as being an acceptable amount of money to buy groceries for a week. Not that the ntcc royalty ever had to live off of ramen noodles and hot dogs. Was it really a blessing for Verna to sell Ange a dress for 35 bucks? That was almost a week's worth of grocery money! I've read the bible through, cover to cover, many times; and I don't ever remember seeing a scripture that supports this type of money grubbing. I remember what John the Baptist said, "He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise." Luke 3:11" Did Verna really need $35 at that time rolling up in their quarter of a million dollar RV (Recreational Vehicle)? Or was it one of their 40 tithe-payer-purchased Cadillacs? Not sure... Was it the Christian thing to do? Ntcc members were giving things to Verna and Rodger as gifts back then; and they still are. In fact they are taking up collections to give things to the Davis and Kekel families. Davis would drop not-so-subtle hints to Matt Reed about wanting a Henry Rifle and mysteriously collections were taken up. Where does this money ultimately come from? The tithe payers! Then there was the whole davis debacle where he was murmuring and griping and complaining and pouting at Ron Denis saying "You bought me the wrong $20,000 Rolex; I wanted the Presidential Model Rolex Watch!" ... read more here. Our tithe and offerings have financed a major portion of these frivolous, lavish, and selfish purchases. Preachers were so caught up in buying things for Davis that they were upset that their names didn't get put on the card that went along with the gift so that their name could be seen by the beneficiary, R-Dub himself. Others neglected the needs of their own families to earn points with the Dubious Disciple Davis.
I look back on this kind of thing and think of how stupid and brainwashed we were to have allowed these users to treat us like this. This wasn't Christianity. People were made to feel bad if they wore the same clothes over and over. If they wore things that didn't match or if their clothes were worn out, then they would often be upbraided by the ntcc leaders for "not being able to put things together". They would be criticized for "not being leaders" and providers. Which brings us back to the multimillionaire Tycoons (or leeches) RWD and VD, that sold a dress to Ange for 10% ~ 15% of Eric's weekly salary. These are the same rich rulers that would pump us for money at conferences. They would come through in their overpriced Recreational Vehicles demanding that Collections for their diesel fuel, and "other expenses" be taken up prior to them gracing us with their presence. Other expenses no doubt included shopping sprees and dining out.
We were financing all expense paid vacations across the country for these rich hypocrites; but they could have easily afforded to pay for these things themselves without pumping us for money. But ntcc pumps its members for money in every service, having indoctrinated its members to "Give 'til it hurts." Meanwhile the board members get richer and justify their money grubbing ways by wresting scripture.
They tried to use the apostle Paul's model of taking up collections for the poor saints in Jerusalem to justify extracting money out of the brainwashed cult members' wallets prior to them arriving. What a joke that was! We were all definitely hoodwinked and bamboozled.
2 Cor 12:14 "Paul told the Corinthians, "Behold, the third time I am ready to come unto you; and I will not be burdensome to you: for I seek not yours, but you: for the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children."
Is it normal to make a profit off of people you love? Would you sell clothing to your own children? Most of the sincere Christians I knew had a biblical character trait called charity. There were always a very few stingy and greedy 'brothers' and 'sisters'; but most of the Christians I knew would give you the shirt off their back. They would do things for free to be a blessing to others. They would give, not expecting anything in return. Imagine that. They would love you unconditionally and that often meant that if they saw that you had a need, and it was within their means to meet that need, they would cheerfully do so, without trying to make a profit from someone else's misfortune. Most of us had Christian Charity; and we were just the kind of suckers that the ntcc leaders were looking for to build their fortunes.
Ntcc Leaders would often blow trumpets prior to their giving of Alms to have glory of men... |
Davis, Kekel and other leaders of the ntcc are like the Parisees. They would blow a trumpet every time they helped someone. If Davis ever did something for anyone, there were strings attached and you could expect to hear the trumpet blow prior to and after the alms were given.
Mat. 6:2 "Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, they have their reward."
If Davis did help someone it was always to his benefit. He knew that if he 'gave', he would get his contribution back multiplied and with interest. He also would hold it over a person's head for the rest of their lives; like he often did with the Mears, reminding them from the pulpit how he allegedly took them in when they had been homeless. What was it for? To gain 40 years and 4 people to be your personal whipping boys and girls and manor slaves to clean your mansions and scrub your RVs??? Anytime davis 'gave' anything it was all about business decisions that would make him rich and keep the money flowing. There are always strings attached; and davis knows he's gonna get his pound of blood outta you. He has often said so. This is how the ntcc operates; and this is what Davis, Kekel and their wives are all about.
Unfortunately, I had the same experience, but it was a suit from VD that actually had a stain on it and I paid $30 for it. RWD was there and said, "You can get the same thing in a kook store." We were poor at the time too, as most werre, and I used birthday money my parents sent me. We were spending $15 a week on groceries at that time. Years later I thought how stupid I was to spend my money on that and why sell something with a stain on it. dr
ReplyDeletedr, Your comment is "spot on", pun intended. With all their money coming from the poor brothers and sisters to begin with; why would these materialistic money-grubbers sell something back to a sister who financed their lavish lifestyle out of her husband's meager wages, sacrificing so they can pay the borg flock-fleecers more money in tithes, offerings, "love gifts", Sunday Night Budget Offerings, Building Fund Pledges, Mission Works Pledges (that never reach the missionary or mission field), and the list goes on. davis has some gall to charge for a filthy outfit that she probably wore one time after some other sister sacrificed a week's worth of grocery money to purchase that outfit new but on sale somewhere in order to "bless" verna. Then erna aka Venereal Disease vd turns around and sells it to you after she stains it? Wow. What a privilege! I bet they say it's not like that; but isn't it really? Who pays their salaries? Who sacrifices and gives everything? The poor brothers and sisters do. Menwhile these borg leaders are leeches on the body of Christ. They set up a system to make themselves filthy rich while impoverishing you; then they act like they are your great saviors when they swoop in to sell you what you already paid for in spades and then some. Thanks, but no thanks! Don't do us any favors, you leeches!
DeleteThis aristocratic "leadership" always takes care of themselves at the expense of those they're supposed to love and watch over. They have a ready market for anything they've used up--cars, suits, whatever; they can't bring themselves to part with their mammon without extracting the last dime they can get for it. They are the perfect example of spoiled rich elitists that treat others like crap--the Leona Helmses of the church world, having no respect or real love for others. They're takers, preying on the good intentions of sincere people. Reminds me of sick rapists who think the victims "like" it.
ReplyDeleteVic also said, "This aristocratic "leadership" always takes care of themselves at the expense of those they're supposed to love and watch over. DeleteDnA say,
That is also true. What I want to know is this: who gets the cash when Davis sells the Cadillacs that we tithe-payers bought for him over the years (at least 40 different models)? We paid his salary and every other expense - including his vehicles that ntcc claims are business expenses; but at the end of the day (or fifty thousand miles) davis sells those luxury cars and does what? Pockets the cash? Probably doesn't pay taxes on it either! Since the borg bylaws give these borg purchased vehicles to the borg officers, isn't it a never ending stream of untraceable cash? We'll never know; will we? As long as brainwashed ntcc dupes (like I was) are willing to hand over their hard-earned cash without demanding accountability from the borg pilferers, the abuse will continue. Why shouldn't you know where it goes? Doesn't the borg office require you to report every jot, tittle, and dusty mite? I thought good leaders never ask you to do anything that they are not willing to do themselves. If they want to know how much you earn, ask them how much they make. That's reasonble! After all, YOU are paying their salary! Shouldn't you know just how generous you have been with them???
Vic, that is so true! When Eric and I lived in Tacoma, we were sleeping on the floor (again). Those cross-country moves and trips to conference are expensive! Somehow Bro. Joe (now Rev. Gonzales) found a new mattress that he gave us. Man, that was a blessing! When we were getting ready to move across country (again), we wanted to be a blessing to someone else; so dutiful Eric went to kekel to "get permission" to give the matress to someone else. kekel was having none of that! He told Eric it was his (mattress) and we should get $something$ for it. *smh* We were shocked; but kekel was adamant even though we had received the matress for free! That made no sense to us; but neither does the whole borg way of doing things.
ReplyDeleteWell, somehow I got the comments published in the wrong order in reponse to Vic; but you get the point either way.
ReplyDeleteYou know I can't remember exactly who I heard say it but one lady (a pastor's wife or someone on the borg leaders wives side) said something to the affect of her selling her things so it means more to the person that they worked to pay for it. I couldn't believe that line then and I believe it even less now. It fries my biscuts! I'm paraphrasing what was said of course and by recollection.
ReplyDeleteYes, sadly we thought it was a great thing to own things the ntcc secret scum society once owned (like that the ntccsss)lol. I bought things from Sis Ankenbauer but I do have to say she was very fair in her prices. She said she just wanted new things. The things she had that weren't "like new" I either paid $1 or they were free. I feel much better about something like that, then the rip off and that was how many years back @ $35 - Amazing!
I shared with a friend via email today - one that I am keeping in prayers that God will bless them and lead them into the right path (all I can say) but I said that ntcc preaches the false doctrine of Proverbs 31 to keep the women home to be their slaves, cook, clean, sex, repeat. They don't want you to become smart to this because you might become smart to the whole story. Really, if they were smart, they'd teach the truth about Proverbs 31 where it says the virtous woman provided for her family of her OWN earnings AND she was a keeper in the home. They keep the woman home to keep the unit opressed. If you have no money, you can't just easily up and leave. It's a vicious circle and they know it. Then they look at the rich (and not so famous) ntccsss and think OH if I can only but touch the hem of their garments like they are something. Then when you get the chance to actually buy their garment OMG.
Sad how they get away with it all. Even more sad how many people still believe. Folks, santa isn't really and neither is the ntcc. Sorry - I'm just saying it the way it is!
Love and peace to all. =)

AS IF!
What does that presumptuous peacock know about working to pay for something? They get everything handed to them on a silver platter paid for by the tithe-paying 'faithful' dupes (like I was)!
What was that word double D used or somebody used to describe us back then? SCHLUBS?
I don't need some fraud like verna, some bossy been nowhere, done nothing hypocrite to sell me their garbage - whether it's a dress, used shoes, or baloney rules. Let's see them live by their own rules. HYPOCRITES!
They oughta buy stock in Oscar Mayer; they peddle so much baloney!
ReplyDeleteOkay, Don remembered that it was Robert Derrick who aptly called us "schulbs" on the Xer blog NTCC News page. Cracked me up then and still does today. Merriam Webster has this to say about schlubs:

Who knew one small word could mean so much? It's almost as encompassing as, oh, say, "kekel"...but most of the synonyms for "kekel" would be inappropriate for a Christian blog.
Ah yes, the ubiquitous "Kook Store" dress... running the gamut from Grannie's nightgowns (with inappropriate stains) to Priscilla's Prom dress (with equally inappropriate stains) all for only $2 each or however many you can stuff into a sack on $1/sack-day at your local Red Shield or Goodwill. Remember to bring your hand sanitizer and stop by the laundromat on the way home to reduce you risk of contracting lice or other kook store koodies.
ReplyDeleteYou might have to forego purchasing the hotdogs for this week's meat allowance; but don't worry, the bible says, 1Cr 8:13 Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.
Yup. Sounds like ntcc doctrine to me. Skip the meat. Buy their baloney instead.
Don n Ange you nailed it all straight!
ReplyDeleteTalking about hot dogs reminds me how rwd would kinda make fun of everyone eating hot dogs. He referred to them as tube steak and would laugh about the poor eating their tube steak. Ocassionally he "enjoyed" one. Hypocrite fits. I agree the words that would describe them best wouldn't be appropriate here!
So tithe was taken out right off the top if you worked for R'Dub? Wow. I can remember Pastor Ashmore talking about people who went to the Goodwill to buy clothes. I really didn't think to much about it. I just wonder what the leadership expects you to do? I suppose that you are expected to "Make brick without straw" and then you end up like Mr. Keener who was called out in service because he "didn't plan ahead and save his money." If I were single, and I had a choice of either working for RW Davis or being homeless I would be homeless. I mean it! I hope I'm never tested regarding this, but I would not work for him under any circumstances. Having my own business, If he were to come to me and ask me about doing work for him I might tell him that I wasn't interested in the job because I know that he wouldn't want to pay me what I'm worth to do the job. The people working for him should have been making at least 15-17.00 and hour MINIMUM for the type of work that they were doing. I suppose just being in the presence of "His Majesty" was enough as well as "undying gratitude."
ReplyDeleteHas anyone ever tried to take undying gratitude to the bank and cash it?
Yeah, Mark. You are right about the wages for the building crew. Now some of those guys were unskilled laborers with no prior experience in construction. But they worked vey hard and deserved a better wage. Eric's father was a General Contractor with his own business that Eric could have easily taken over if things had worked out differently. Except for plumbing, which Eric learned in the borg, he could take blueprints and clear a lot and build a structure from the ground to completion. Ntcc was only paying him $6/hr. What a bunch of skinflint swindlers taking advantage of the brothers.
DeleteYeah, I've spent months sleeping on floors. When you show up in a strange city with almost no money, just getting a roof over your head is hard enough; furniture is on the back burner. I never even had a decent mattress until about five years ago. Finally things had improved enough that I decided not to sleep on some dump-scavenged junk, so we spent about $2,500 and got a latex mattress and a nice platform bed.
ReplyDeleteI remember when you and Eric lived in Tacoma; you were our neighbors on C street and we bought some of your stuff when you left too. Shelves, I think; black steel. $35. You also gave me some calculus textbooks that I still have. To this day I'm a borderline hoarder; in NTCC one learns not to throw ANYTHING away.
Wow Vic. $35 for black steel shelve - used - sounds expensive to me. I don't remember them; but at that price, I hope they were good / durable book shelves! I do remembering you helping out. We were really tight on space and you guys were a big help.
DeleteOkay. Sorry. Something came up; and that last comment to Vic got cut short. What I wanted to say was, Vic was willing to help take some books off my hands; because we didn't really have room for all that stuff to go in the truck with us as we moved across the country. Over the years I had forgotten about that. But as soon as we reconnected outside the Borg, Vic reminded me of the calculus books and offered to send them to me. That was so thoughtful and considerate. I felt he deserved to keep them after hauling them around for a friend for all those years! Although I do think calculus is probably a rudimentary subject for Vic. LOL. Which brings us to another comment about books and moving and the ntcc....
ReplyDeleteIn high school I loved algebra. Our teacher was animated and treated us as humans, not 'just kids'. A fellow student was not permitted by his father to use a calculator. The dad felt it would dumb-down his children and wanted them to use their brains. I found that intriguing. So I started working my problems without a calculator (but would check my work with one after getting the answer the old-fashioned way). :o) I did very well and really enjoyed the challenge. As a result I did well in the class. I remember one exam where I felt I had gotten a perfect score. When the tests came back, one problem was marked incorrect. I worked it over and over and kept getting the same answer. I took my paper to the teacher. She looked it over and threw it on the desk in disgust. She had accidentally had the wrong answer for her grading key for those test. I really did have the right answer; and she was mad at herself because she would have to check all the other students' papers. We had a good laugh about it.

ReplyDeleteNow I share all this to say I was pretty good at math; and I really enjoyed it. I went to Penn State for 3 years and studied engineering. One out of every 10 engineers in America comes from Penn State. They have a huge program. So for their first two years, all engineering students take mostly the same classes until they declare a major (electrical, chemical, etc.) As a result, most of those beginning classes are considered 'weeder' courses designed to weed out some folks who might find the more advanced subjects too challenging. Calculus was one such course. I enjoyed it though, so I made it through just fine. I even kept my notebooks.

ReplyDeleteWell, one day at the campground I stumbled upon one of those old notebooks from calculus class. I was looking at the problems, written in my own hand, and could no longer read or understand the language / equations! This was effect the ntcc had on me! Locked up in poverty with no voice and no where to go, living like a prisoner, abused in the services like we all were... It had really taken its toll on me. If I were to bump into old school friends, they would not believe the change!
This is my point. ntcc is very detrimental. They verbally abuse and belittle people in every service. At the time I was in virtually everything was considered a sin. Higher education was preached against. Women were only supposed to "be flowers" - look pretty, smell nice, keep your mouth shut. *sigh*
I'm glad I'm out and can use my voice and brain. I feel bad for those who are still trapped. They really have some obstacles to overcome; but it is really worth it to escape and be free in Christ. When you are institutionalized and conditioned to follow orders like you are in the ntcc, freedom can actually seem frightening. But once you try it, you'll love it. I'm not saying go out and sin. I'm saying break the borg shackles and be the person God intended you to be. He doesn't want some sinful man lording it over you the way the borg 'leaders' do. You're a child of God with rights and privileges that come with being a citizen of the heavenly nation / family. Don't give that up to obey someone who treats you like dirt while you make him wealthy at your expense. That's not God's plan for your life.
Ange - AMEN! So nicely put and I just hope and pray women that are still in are seeing our posts and realize we are trying to help them!!
ReplyDeleteNow about the workers - yes, Mark G it is true about them taking the tithe right off the top. I knew some brothers that worked for the borg and they told us the same thing.
And on this note, I have to say one summer, just before I left ntcc, my boss needed some flooring done in her bathroom/vanity area. She left it up to me who to use as she was gone for the summer tour and I was tending to both her home and business. She had no one in particular to use and her old person was no longer in business. I asked her if I could use someone from the church because I know how skilled they are and (at that time in my life) would have rather helped them b/c I know how they don't have any money.
SO I asked 'little' Gesang (Gesang's son) He accepted the job. I don't recall exactly what we paid him but it was down the middle fair. It could've been a higher 'bid' but he too was being fair. *SIGH* what a mistake! His work wasn't perfect. And I had a dear friend here (never ntcc related) that summer too. She didn't care who he was, he didn't do the work to her standards. "Little" Gesang and her got into it. He didn't raise his voice as she did but he sure was firing right back at her. Sadly I didn't take sides and wished I would've. He didn't do what he should've. He did an ok job but it was sloppy. There was pet damage from cat urine, years of it as they didn't always pee in the litter box but next too it sometimes. I encouraged her to get the carpet out for that reason and put a floor that can be cleaned and mopped properly. What a mistake. He did a quick primer on the subfloor to mask the odor but it really should've had so much more work done to it. A professional contractor may have said X amount for the job but once they pulled the flooring back they would've seen the damage and revised the bid or refused to perform due to the damages or something. It was a quick buck for him. His talent was there but his care wasn't. Typical attitude - after all he was being groomed by daddy Gesang. I know EX (momma)Gesang must be so sad to see the way little Gesang is following daddy's footsteps now.
And on a side note . . . . the women who didn’t say anything back then, she’s not here any more – that person stayed at ntcc. God didn’t give me a spirit of fear but of love, power, and a sound mind! Ntcc didn’t want me to know that!!
Correction on my last sentence on my last statement: not the women - but the woman (I was 3rd party referring to me! lol)
ReplyDeleteshe, verma, should really be ashamed what nerve and how ungodly to see a sister in need and instead of opening up her bowels of compassion or mercy for the sister and give her the dress, she chose to sell it to her. wheres the love and compassion for the sister? verma probably has a closet full of clothing that she could give away but because of greed she woulde'nt. I often use to wonder why was it that ntcc wanted all the students to work even if they could aford to pay there way with out having to work. And now i know its because of GREED and more GREED and had very little to do with character building.
ReplyDeleteIf ntcc was to ever change it will probaly be because of the secoond tier leaders in there organization such as the district overseers. The upper leadership is to money hungery and to far advanced in deception to ever change, it would take a very real shaking from God for those leaders to repent for all the hurt that they have caused a lot of folks, even if there was only one brother are sister that have been hurt or mislead by them that alone is enough to show how corrupt and UNGODLY they are.
ReplyDeleteDISAAPOINTED,
ReplyDeleteI really doubt the ntcc 'leaders' will ever repent. They are just like the Pharisees. They don't think they need to repent.
As far as second tier 'leaders' changing the organization, I doubt that too. They are in the second tier because the first tier chose them because they are ambitious enough to be in the first tier, no matter who they walk over to get there, like tieman did to us; or they are second tier because of their unflagging loyalty to the first tier. These are people like eli gesang who will lie for the leadership. It starts small, building a phony sign for the legal amount of people allowed in a building according to fire code laws; then he's lying about installing a washer and dryer in each of the "single family dwelling" buildings [that actually are rental units for about ten students in each building; hardly a "single family dwelling"]. Yeah, eli will smile wanly and act all nice to the building code inspectors, while lying through his teeth to them. He'll tell the building crew to pack it up and go home if they see an OSHA inspector coming; because the truly unforgivable sin in the ntcc is getting caught and costing the borg any money. These second tier 'fellas' as davis speaks of those he despises, are so loyal to davis and the borg they will forsake the Christ Who bought them with His blood. They will despise Him and tell lies, break life-vows, abandon their families, and any other number of sins to make themselves men-pleasers. You can hate me for writing these truths; but that's how it is in your ntcc and your family. Well, if you want to call your broken family a family. When you start looking for someone to blame, make sure your finger is pointed in the right direction.

This is what's wrong with the ntcc and it's leadership. There is no compassion for anyone accept for the tithe paying butt kissers. The tithe paying butt kissers are the primary demographic that the ntcc reaches out to. They are not interested in helping the homeless, the widow, the orphans, the needy, the hungry or the weak. Their target audience is the sucker that can be brainwashed into giving their money to the ntcc parasites, who attach themselves like leaches to their victims, sucking the very life out of them until they have been drained of all their money, resources and energy. Then they detach and look for more victims to leach onto.
How can you love God who you have not seen and not love the brethren who you have seen? How can you see your sister in need, and sell them something that meets their needs and still call yourself a Christian? That sister needs a dress so let me go into my walk-in closet and find something that I don't care to wear anymore, and sell it to her for close to the price of a new dress. Is RWD that tight that Verna has to sell her used clothing to get shopping money? Or perhaps Verna just takes pleasure in manipulating others.
Sister, we need to get you some clothes. Let's take you to the flea market or the Kook store and get you something to wear. Or better yet, instead of spending 5 bucks at the flea market or Kook store, I've got a dress that I haven't worn in decades that I can sell you for about what you spend on groceries every week.
These people are sick. The ntcc is not a healthy church. They are a bunch of very ill people that pass themselves off as being the last hope for mankind. If this is all we have to hope for, then we are of all men, most miserable.
