In Memory of Rev. Timothy P. Hasty

Recently we have learned of the passing of Rev. Tim Hasty; who was a long time minister of the ntcc and Pastor of the New Testament Christian Church in Louisville, Kentucky. Although information is not public and very little is known, we knew that the Brother had been fighting cancer for some time and heard and verified through various channels that Bro. Hasty had recently passed away.

Tim Hasty invited me to church at Fort Gordon in 1983 while I was stationed there for AIT (Advanced Individual Training).  Bro. Hasty was a church member and fellow GI at the time; and I remember that day almost 30 years ago when he invited me to church.  He gave me a church card and told me about the services and the Servicemen's Home.  I told him I would come; but he seemed to not believe me; and he continued to tell me how important it was that I came; and with sincerity he told me, that a lot of people say they are going to come; but he was counting on me to keep my word.  He then asked me where my soul would spend eternity if I were to die at that moment.  I told him that I believed that I would go to hell.  If I remember right, he tried to get me to pray right on the sidewalk between the barracks.  Bro. Reginald Terry (who is currently Pastoring in Jackson, MS) was also there witnessing to me.

I came to church; and at the altar call I came forward and prayed for salvation.  Rev. Cyrius was the Pastor; and Rev. Hennis was the associate pastor; and it was Rev Hennis that prayed with me.  I didn't think God actually saved me at the time; because I had prayed before; and it didn't take.  I enjoyed the fellowship and continued to come to services; but there was no change on the inside right away.

Tim Hasty became a friend to me.

We would eat lunch together in the mess hall and would hang out at the home.  I was smoking and cursing during this time but not around the Christians.  It took about 3 months for me to let go and allow God to be real in my life.  In December of '83, I PCS'd to Ft. Benning, GA for jump school after leave at home.  On a weekend I jumped on a bus, without a parachute ;-), and went to Hephzibah, GA; and we all went on a road trip to a fellowship meeting; where I prayed with Donald Hummel (who was to be my future Pastor at Ft. Bragg) for and received the Holy Ghost Baptism.  At that time God gave me victory over drinking, smoking and cursing; and I actually started to live a Christian life and loved God.

Tim Hasty was a dear friend and brother during that time; but because of the system of control and isolation that existed within the ntcc, we grew apart.  Communication was discouraged; and we never wrote or called each other and would only briefly see each other during conferences; and it was just "Hello Brother".

I remember back to those early days when we would listen to the earliest Maranatha Praise albums; and we went on hikes through the woods having a lot of good fellowship and enjoying our salvation.  We were free in those days, and allowed to be ourselves.  Over time, though, the system of control and the unnecessary rules that were imposed on us changed the Reality that we once knew to drudgery; and we all became like robots.

Long time members of the ntcc know exactly what I'm talking about.  If they would be honest with themselves, they would admit that the joy and the peace they once had has become routine and obligation.

I'm not sure how Tim Hasty or anyone that spent 30+ years in the ntcc were able to deal with this system of control; but I know that there are good people in the ntcc who are trapped by a bad system.

I know that we are breaking protocol here by discussing Rev. Hasty.  And that we will probably be demonized by the ntcc for posting this.  However, I choose not to live according to the ntcc's mandates of what they hold to be right or wrong any more.

I choose to remember Bro. Hasty as a friend and brother.

But beyond that, I do not, and have not, known him well enough to understand all the dynamics of what he's been through and what he has accomplished in life.

We wish his family well and hold no ill will towards any of his church members.  We wish a fond farewell to a friend who we hope to see on the other side of eternity.

We believe God's word and the promises of hope that are for all believers. We do not choose to exclude people from those promises based on their outward appearance, or their earthly  works, or even what church they do or do not attend.

We know that ntcc doctrine excludes many Christians from heaven; but we also realize that most of the members and many ministers are blinded and forced by fear to live a Pharisaical lifestyle.  We hold out hope for many in the ntcc; that they are able to maintain their salvation and love for Christ inside of the parameters they are forced to live by.

Rev. Hasty is survived by his wife Linda (Garduño) and son Timothy Aaron Hasty as well as a large extended family.

Update 2-1-14
Today as I was watching this video, I found myself contemplating Linda Hasty and her son; for I had seen Linda addressing him, "Son, ..."  I found this endearing - a simple form of expressing love.  So, I thought I'd add this beautiful song to this memorial page.

  1. Praying for the family.
In ntcc the loss of the husband is very very serious because he is the only source of income.

Thank you for posting such a touching memorial to your friend.
    He will be surely missed.

  2. "Jesus wept." John 11:35

Those two words are the shortest verse in the Bible. Yet the message is so profound.

In the NTCC, especially in the ministry, one is taught not to weep. The question was raised, "What good does crying do?" ...

    Jesus wept.

There must be some good reason for crying, for releasing our tears and showing our feelings.

    Jesus wept.

We encourage anyone to allow themselves to process their emotions, whether grief, anger, sorrow, or joy; these feelings are a gift from God to help us heal.

If Jesus could weep en route to raising Lazarus from the dead, we too can weep as we release Tim to the hands of God.

  3. Yes, for some reason there is a taboo concerning death.
As christians we know that death is just the means to go to Heaven but it is just the same, we are human and we still have feelings of grief.
I never understood all that secrecy.

  5. Don & Ange,

Does anyone know who is officiating the funeral or who will give a eulogy? I'd be very surprised if RWD or Olson didn't come down there and perform the funeral themselves. No doubt there will be ministers from the surrounding areas, but in the NTCC you are taught to celebrate during the death of a Christian and to try to reach out to the family members that are there to get them to make a decision. Basically a salvation message for those that are there that are "lost". Their son is older and is probably out on his own by now, so that leaves his wife by herself. I just hope he had life insurance and some way of paying off expenses before he died. I'm not sure what skills his wife had after 20+ years of not having a job, but it would be VERY hard to re-enter the workforce at her age with little/no formal training.

  6. Who knows? Most NTCC ministers don't have a real plan put in place in the event of their death. The women certainly don't. I'd be none too surprised if she wasn't high and dry but of course there is no way I'd know. What I do know, (because of past experiences) is I wouldn't want to be the average ministers wife in the NTCC if my husband was alive say no less if he died. Most NTCC women are down and out who've either been left by their NTCC husband or had their husband die. The only plan the NTCC leadership had in the past is to try to marry off the woman to yet another NTCC minister so the women is no longer their problem. It's a sick cycle.

In this case I can't really comment on this particular guy because I never knew him but I do know the NTCC and how the leadership operates and I know how the people inside the NTCC operate and there are very few exceptions.

Your guess is as good as ours. We were thinking Jim Johnson might do it but that's just a guess. The ntcc operates under a shroud of secrecy and this kind of info probably wont come out till after the fact. I have never been to an ntcc style funeral but have also heard that it's more of a celebration than anything else. That's all great to celebrate the life of a brother, but I'm not sure how well that goes over with the immediate family, (Tim's wife and son). It's natural to hurt inside when the ones you love the most pass away and I'm not sure how one celebrates in a situation like this.

I'm not sure what Rev. Hasty's situation is but I know that most ministers in the ntcc do not have life insurance and they are not encouraged to get it either. I remember ntcc pastors would preach, "We don't need life insurance; We need life Assurance". While it's good to have assurance; what good does it do for your families future? A responsible Christian should think about the future of his family and prepare for it. It has got to be demoralizing to be terminally ill and have to spend your last days on earth worrying about what is going to happen to your family. I would imagine that there would also be a lot of guilt for not preparing for them, but that is normal in the ntcc.

The ntcc will no doubt have an altar call for the loved ones that show up and that is in itself not a bad thing, but what is the underlying message that most of the unsaved public will miss? Do they really want to be part of an organization that keeps it ministers living below the poverty level why they swim in wealth with no worries whatsoever?

God doesn't have two classes of children. One class who live a life of deprivation without preparing for their own futures, giving all their time and money to what they think is a greater cause, while the other class lives a life of wealth with want of nothing, promising the underlings that "God will greatly bless them" and "Souls are in the balances" while they spend large amounts of money frivolously on their own worldly lusts. Hello!!! This should be a wake up call.

We hope that ntcc'rs read this and open their eyes and we hope that loved ones will think hard before blindly following a path that enables a few greedy leaders to make merchandise of God's people. Responsible Christianity is providing for your families. Wisdom will tell you that your family is just as important as the families of the ntcc leadership.

We wish the Hasty family the best and we are very sorry for your loss. We hold no ill will towards the majority of the ntcc and it's ministers that do most of the work, but we feel obligated to warn folks of the ntcc that the leadership in the highest levels of the organization knowingly lives according to a different standard and they are hypocrites and walking contrary to God's word.

The bible speaks a lot of how the church is supposed to care for the widow, the fatherless and the orphan. We see very little of this in the ntcc. You are right in your assessment that most ntcc women get married off as soon as possible so that the leadership doesn't have to deal with it.

We have been trying hard to get ntcc'rs to see what we see, but when you are in a cult, you think that everyone on the outside is wrong and you are right. We were the same way. I can't imagine what a woman goes through that is in a situation like this. Most ntcc ministers and wives are cut off from their families and friends and even their brethren in the church. John Wayne once said that if a man had 2 or 3 friends he was rich. Try going to a fellow minister in the ntcc for help without clearing it through the leadership. Most of the ministers are just as broke as you are anyway and many are discouraged from contacting one another. Women have very few skills that are marketable in the work place because they have been isolated for so long. They go to apply for a job in their ntcc get-up and let's face it, there's not to many employers that are looking for housewives with 30 years experience. It's a bad position to be in and they get little to no help from their leaders either.

  9. I've known The Hastys for many years. He had character and was faithful. Like I said before, he always did and said what he thought was right. We all make choices that we think are right at the time the decision must be made. He was loved very much. I'm sorry for his family. He will be missed. He liked to sing "swing low sweet chariot... coming forth to carry me home..." Farewell old Pastor.

Nobody is doubting Mrs. Hasty's character. But the NTCC has no place for a woman "without a man". While I was "in" the NTCC, only one woman tried to enter the ministry "without" a man. It did not go well for her. She was sent to work with a family overseas and there was such friction she wound up back in Washington.

NTCC expects all single and divorced women "without a man" to hurry up and find one and get married. Under the davis dynasty such women could expect to be barefoot and barren in the barrio for the rest of their days in the NTCC.

Life insurance was 'preached' against -- davis didn't want you to 'waste' money on that when you could give that cash to him. I'll bet, though, that davis the forked tongue has a large life insurance policy on himself and on his wife and, when she was under his roof, his daughter, tanya maxamillia reynolds davis
    kekel.

In fact james leon 'jim' johnson, the ntcc overseer, actually sells insurance as a business on the side. That's really an interesting fact considering davis 'preaching' against having any job other than full-time preaching and 'preaching' "What do you need life insurance for?" *frown* "That's death insurance." *scowl* "You don't need that." Hmmn. Why would jim, a loyal davis disciple from the start sell something "You don't need"? He probably sold a whole bunch of policies to all the NTCC board members for their life insurance, luxury cars, recreational vehicles, mansions, rental properties, ad infinitum. Another great example of NTCC preaching one thing for you to do, while they do the opposite. That, friends, is hypocrisy - "They say and do not" . And hypocrisy is what you get at the top levels of the NTCC.

  13. So if an NTCC woman is expected to be married, and her husband is not supposed to buy life insurance, what can a woman who has been in the NTCC for 30 years expect if her husband passes away before she does?

Destitution? Seeking an entry-level job on an overcrowded job market after having no paying job for the last thirty years. Starting out at age 50 or so with no education, no experience, and no money saved for the present, much less the future. That would be the typical scenario faced by an NTCC widow.

Don't expect any practical help from the borg either. Their track record is dismal at best, downright deplorable in fact.

Now, Mrs. Hasty may or may not have a nest egg. Rev. Hasty may have broken protocol and had a career with benefits. We don't know. But we do know that would be an exception to what is typical in the NTCC.

    to be continued

    ReplyDelete
  14. So what's next for Mrs. Hasty or any other NTCC widow? Typically the borg 'recycles' these women. That's a crude word describing the crude NTCC process of sending the woman to either St. Louis, Missouri or Graham, Washington to be warehoused at those large churches which were bible school hubs for ntcc until another borg member marries her. Shocking, but true. We've seen it time and again with the NTCC divorced ministers and ministers' ex-wives.

If she were a man, NTCC would send her on a 'revival' circuit so she could shop for a new spouse. Once a prospect is located, both parties 'miraculously' wind up in Graham, Washington so the prospect can be indoctrinated at the NTCC bible school (bs) or, as they now call it 'seminary'; while the borg leaders oversee their 'dating' by granting limited permission for them to talk "on the wall" in the fellowship hall. Then 'pastor' will utter those magic words, "Brother, when are you gonna marry that woman?" and the blissful couple, who has maybe 'dated' for a total of 20 hours at best 'on the wall' will know they have been given the greenlight to matrimony by the 'man of gawd' and nuptials will ensue within the month. No ceremony needed. Just stand here and state your vows. Why waste money on a wedding when that cash could be in the NTCC coffers?

This may be difficult to read if you are unfamiliar with the NTCC way. But we are speaking plainly of exactly how things are in the NTCC. As one other person commented, the ntcc wants Linda or any other widow to be quickly paired off with a new spouse so that the borg won't need to take care of her.

    Not that they would anyway....

But now, with all the pressure from the truth about the ntcc coming out on the blogs, well, they just couldn't handle all the bad publicity that would come from abandoning Linda the way they have other widows in the past. What a nightmare.

So I'm thinking Linda will receive a little extra special treatment from the borg; just so they can save a little face. That's my opinion, based on nine years in the ntcc ministry machine and 23 years of observing life in the ntcc.

I'm sure others know the truth of what I'm writing here, even Linda herself, if she would care to admit it. Yes, she is a strong and special lady. And we are doing our part to see to it she receives the help she should.

  15. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive [and] remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

Then we which are alive [and] remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

  16. I don't see where it is anyone's business what happens to Sister Hasty unless all of you intend on stepping up and seeing to it that she is cared for. If not then this will be chalked up as another ignorant blog with a bunch of sinners needing to gossip and trash talk people behind closed doors. If this is about Pastor Hasty and the love for him then keep it that way instead of trashing it up by downing NTCC and those who are in attendance.

I'm finding it hard to understand why you being an ntcc loving individual, would depend on us "sinners" as you call us to provide financial assistance to an ntcc widow. I do care about Bro. Hasty and therefore I also care about his family. If they contact us through this blog or our email on this blog, we will see what we can do to help. What have you done? Unfortunately, ntcc'rs are not allowed to communicate on the blogs. I guess you didn't get that memo.

    DnA,

As opposed to an ignorant ntcc preacher that is a sinner that gossips and trash talks people openly from behind a pulpit? We actually are not doing this from "behind closed doors". We are doing this publicly and we are not hiding behind an anonymous title. What are you scared of? Are you ashamed, or are you not allowed to identify yourself? Just think about it for a moment. You are not free. If you are doing the right thing than don't hide behind an anonymous title and take drive by shots at us, just be real, unafraid, unashamed and speak your mind. It will lend credibility to what you say.

The ntcc has very little credibility because even long time ministers will not come on here and identify themselves. They can call people a whole slew of names while they hide behind their pulpits, but they are scared to come out in public and defend their positions. They know they are wrong and they will be torn to shreds if they come on these blogs preaching their phony man made doctrines.

You all are just like the Pharisees. There is no substance to your professed Christianity. You have to be Christ like and that is rarely seen now days in the ntcc leadership, nor is it exhibited from behind the pulpit.

  22. Hi Ember,

Sorry that you feel the way you do. I know that RWD was often fond of quoting Psalm 119:165: "Great peace have they which love thy law, and nothing shall offend them". He usually quoted this scripture after someone got offended by his use of the word "nigger". I'm sure you have never heard this before and you might want some proof. There are a lot of good men and women who have been left by the wayside that have testified on factnet and on Chief's blog about this. But I'm sure that you think that everybody that says something against the ntcc is just another child of the devil.

Jesus spoke against the religious hypocrites of his day, and the ntcc leaders of His time made similar accusations. This "hate filled trash blog" as you call it is one voice of many that have spoken out against the ntcc. I really do care about people in the ntcc and many of them have your exact same attitude. I don't blame you because you are part of a brain washing system that makes you think you are one of a chosen few that is saved, while anyone that disagrees is considered hell bound.

The ntcc has misused God's word to lead many people just like you astray, and you can't see it. You are just like I was when I was a member of your cult. I refused to entertain any thought or any one who said anything against the ntcc. While I do think there are many people genuinely saved in the ntcc, I believe, (and so do many other X-members that have been there), that ntcc doctrine is a toxic poison that slowly drains the joy of salvation out of people, because they have created a gospel that excludes many that love Christ, and twisted scriptures to the destruction of souls. Believe it or not, odds are that you will not survive longer than 10 years in the ntcc. The odds are even greater that you will not make it a total of 15 or 20 years. Only a small fraction of 1% of all that have been to ntcc churches have made it past 20 years. Jesus kept 11 out of 12, and they stayed faithful until death.

  23. As for coming to Kentucky to meet with you, I'm not sure that would be very productive. Let us know what proof you need or want and we will provide it to the best of our ability. What is it that you don't believe? Much of what we say on this blog and what others say is from eye witness accounts. We have the testimony of more than two or three witness on just about everything we post, which by the way, is ntcc's criteria for excommunicating folks although they have been known to take the word of one person under certain circumstances. I know you will probably not receive our witness, but if you are interested in truth, let us know what it is that you don't believe and we will do our best to present you with the facts. Then it is up to you if you want to turn a blind eye to the truth.

We have quite a bit of proof that what we share is true. I'm sure that if you read this blog and the others you already have heard it all and dismissed it as hate filled trash. There is not much more we can do for you, but there are others that have opened their eyes and refused to be lied to any longer. They are tired of being used for their money and having to sacrifice their time and resources so that RWD, Kekel and a few select elitists can prosper financially while everyone else struggles to make ends meet. Go to Graham and see the lavish lifestyles they live. Check out their BMW and Mercedes and their Cadillacs. Check out the mansions they live in and the Recreational Vehicles they drive. If you think we are making this up, you are blind as a bat.

Talk to the many X-ministers who were made to get Vasectomies and were not allowed to have their own children while the Kekels have a son that is a "sinner" and goes to one of the best business academies that money can pay for off of your tithe dollar. If you don't believe us, try asking RWD or Kekel and see what they have to say. They will ruthlessly blast you for asking anything personal about them. You will be pulpit fodder and then all of the brothers and sisters that you thought loved you, will look away and shun you. You will be labelled as a fault finder and ostracized, and publicly humiliated. This is your ntcc and I think deep down inside you know this but refuse to see it.
